State & Local Government Accounting Conference

The FICPA’s 2006 State & Local Government Accounting Conference was held on August 21-22, 2006 at the Hyatt Regency – Orlando International Airport and with close to 160 participants in attendance. 

This year's conference included terrific speakers and timely updates.

On Monday afternoon, attendees attempted to stump the experts during the Panel presentation on audit issues.  Alan Nast moderated while Jeanine Bittinger, Jeff Tuscan, Jim Dwyer, Lynda Dennis, and James Rizzo fielded audience questions and provided fresh insight on current audit issues.

On Tuesday, Tom Reilly provided his professional insight on the latest proposed changes to the “Yellow Book”.  A topic sure to be on everyone’s minds over the next year!

In addition Terry Patton discussed the latest updates on GASB Statements No. 43 and No. 45;  Richard Cristini discussed Fraud in Government where he delved into the role of SAS 99, what types of internal controls provide a deterrent to fraud, and how fraud analysis has impacted the audit planning process; and Jodi Swauger talked about the different generations within the workplace and provided insight on how the generations can work together.

Daniel O’Keefe provided and update on Federal and State Single Audit; Jennifer Green discussed the latest legislative and regulatory issues; Harold Monk gave a current SAS Update from the Auditing Standards Board; and Mae Whitlow brought in the IRS perspective on compensation issues.
