Florida's Tax Amnesty Program Ends
On Friday, Oct. 31, the four-month state tax-amnesty period that was passed by the Florida Legislature last spring came to a close. The program, which officially began on July 1, had been projected to add around $75 million in net revenue to the state's coffers. High-level staff at the Florida Department of Revenue (DOR) have indicated that a gross amount of nearly $110 million may have been collected overall. The DOR says it will have a clearer picture of how much revenue actually was brought in through the Tax Amnesty Program by December.
The amnesty program applied to virtually all state taxes, including those on sales, corporate income, estates and fuels. Under the program, taxpayers could submit unpaid taxes with no penalties, receive a discount on interest owed, and not have to worry about criminal charges.
If you have questions about the Tax Amnesty Program, please visit the DOR Web site or send a fax, toll-free, to the Department at (800) 352-3671.
