FICPA Hosts 2006 Candidate Interviews
With 28 open seats in the Florida House, eight in the Senate and all four Cabinet seats up during the 2006 elections, decisions on which candidates the Florida CPA/PAC will support depend on in-depth research including local CPA input, a candidate’s position on issues of importance to Florida CPAs and evaluating the candidate’s ability to win the election. Of those tools, individual in-person candidate interviews sometimes yield the best results.
The Florida Chamber’s Political Institute held two rounds of candidate interviews at the FICPA office on Nov. 1-2 and 15-16. The Political Institute provides its members with the essential tools, statistics and analysis needed to study legislative races. As a member of the Political Institute, the FICPA was proud to host over 30 individuals representing nearly 20 business organizations and 27 candidates running for an open seat in the Florida Senate or the Florida House of Representatives during the 2006 election cycle.
During these interviews, Frank Carollo, FICPA member and candidate for House District 107, participated. Frank is the only CPA running for the legislature in 2006 and works with the Miami firm of Morrison Brown Argiz & Farra, LLP. If elected, he will be the only CPA serving in the legislature as Rep. Fred Brummer, R-Apopka, will be term-limited after the 2006 elections.
Candidate interviews give Political Institute members the opportunity to meet face-to-face and ask candidates individual questions. It also allows candidates who might not normally travel to Tallahassee from their respective districts an opportunity to introduce themselves to various business interests. All information collected in these interviews will be utilized by the Florida CPA/PAC trustees as they make decisions on the 2006 elections.
