Members Add Up - FAQ

Recruit New Members to the FICPA and Earn Prizes

Members Add Up is a new year-round campaign in which current FICPA members who recruit new members to join our ranks can earn valuable prizes. All participants who recruit at least one new member will be entered into a drawing for a grand prize.

The Members Add Up campaign runs for a full year—from July 2007 through June 2008.

How Does It Work?

It’s easy. Any FICPA member can participate in Members Add Up. Simply recruit a colleague to join the FICPA, and when he/she processes a new member application with your name as a referral, we’ll credit you with points toward the grand prize. Click here for a member application. A NEW member is defined as an individual who has either never been an FICPA member, or has been terminated for more than one year.

Why Should You Participate?

It’s simple: more members mean a bigger voice for the CPA profession in Florida—and at the national level. Your FICPA membership is involved in many areas that advocate the CPA profession—from the legislative arena to providing valuable information for your business. We can only be successful with a strong and committed membership base.

Increased client potential: More FICPA members means a broader network in which you can do business through networking, referrals and sharing of information.

Recognition: You’ll be recognized for every new member you recruit…and you’ll have a chance to earn prizes along the way.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Members Add Up Campaign

1. Why should I recruit members for the FICPA?

Of course, there is recognition and valuable prizes being offered to recruiters as part of this campaign. More importantly, by recruiting at least one new member to the FICPA, you will help strengthen the accounting profession in Florida.  The more members the FICPA has, the louder our voice becomes on accounting issues and trends that affect our profession, and the greater our ability to influence legislation. In addition, the FICPA is your professional organization and the dues brought in by an increase in membership will give the FICPA the broad financing needed to continue and expand the valuable professional education, tools and programs that it provides its members. By bringing in new members, you help to build a bigger, better, stronger organization for yourself.

2. What can I win if I recruit a new member?

Last year, the Grand Prize was a large-screen plasma television, and this year’s Grand Prize will be announced soon.

3. How do I become eligible to win the Grand Prize?

For every member you recruit who is eligible to join in one of our membership categories and pays their dues in full, you will be credited with two (2) points. (You will receive one point if you recruit a student member.) The more members you recruit to join, the more points you will receive. At the end of the year-long campaign, we will have a drawing of all eligible members for the Grand Prize. Your name will be put into the drawing for every point you receive. If you recruited 5 members, you would have 10 points. Your name would be put in the drawing TEN times. So, the more members you recruit to join, the more chances you have of winning the grand prize. (And even if you recruited one member, you would have TWO chances of winning that prize!)

4. How long does the Members Add Up campaign last?

The current Members Add Up campaign will last through June 30, 2008, with prizes to be awarded soon thereafter. However, your efforts to recruit new members to the FICPA should not end with this campaign. As members who care about their professional organization and the value it provides, you should always be looking for others to share in the benefits of an FICPA membership. Along with the wonderful work you do, recruiting new members is yet another way that you can help to strengthen the accounting profession in Florida.

5. How do I receive credit for recruiting a new member?

Once you have encouraged a colleague to join, you may refer them to the online FICPA membership application. On the membership application forms there is a space provided for the applicant to fill in the name of the person who referred them. Just be sure you ask your recruit to do this. They may also join over the phone by calling our Member Service Center at (800) 342-3197 and give your name to our membership representative. This referral information will be captured in our database and you will be credited with this new member accordingly.

6. Does a potential member have to be new to the FICPA, or do former members count?

Former members can be counted as long as they have NOT been a member of the FICPA for the entire previous year. Any non-member will be counted as a recruit so long as the "referred by" section of the application is filled in with the recruiter's name.

7. Can two or more members get partial credit for recruiting a new member?

No, each new member can only have one recruiter credited. Should an application be received with more than one person listed in the "referred by" section, only the first person named will receive credit.

8. Who should I be recruiting?

New members can be licensed CPAs or those in the accounting profession who qualify for associate membership. See the Types of Membership for specific eligibility requirements.

9. How do I find out how many new members I have credit for?

Simply contact the Member Service Center at msc@ficpa.org, (800) 342-3197 (in Florida), or (850) 224-2727 and they can help you.
