Message From the Chair: Ellen L. Joseph of Falcone Group, LLC, in Boca Raton
Your Florida Industry Section leadership met in Tampa on July 18th to develop a strategic plan for the upcoming year. This was an enthusiastic experience and a terrific opportunity to meet the volunteer leaders from each Committee and Section.
The Florida Industry Section met and discussed key issues we would like to focus on in the upcoming year which include:
1. Expanding and enhancing the content on the Industry Section Web site
2. Implementing roundtable discussions on topics of interest to members in Industry
3. Developing divisions of interest within the Industry Section
Look for updates on these and other Section projects in upcoming newsletters and on the Florida Industry Section home page.
Volunteering is the only way we can accomplish our goals; it is also a great way to meet and share knowledge with fellow Industry members. To get involved and help our Section reach the 08-09 goals check the Industry Volunteer area of the Web site or e-mail sections@ficpa.org for more information. The Sections team at FICPA will customize a volunteer opportunity to fit your interests and time availability.
Thank you for your commitment to making the most of your membership. I look forward to working with you and a successful FY 08-09.

News: The End of GAAP Could Begin Next Year
CFO.com – 8/27/2008
The Securities and Exchange Commission has raised the possibility that some U.S. publicly traded companies will be able to use international financial reporting standards next year.
On Wednesday, the SEC commissioners proposed a timetable for transitioning all public companies from U.S. generally accepted accounting standards to IFRS within eight years, with the allowance for some companies to begin using the global rules earlier. If this so-called roadmap is approved, the SEC estimates that 110 companies would be eligible to use IFRS at the end of fiscal years ending after December 15, 2009, depending on their size and industry.
